November 1, 2024! For a long time, trans* professional associations and trans* activists have been calling for the so-called “Transsexuals Act” (TSG), which came into force in 1981, to be replaced by a self-determination law. After years of relentless political work, the “Act on Self-Determination with regard to Gender Registration” (SBGG) will now officially come into force on November 1, 2024.
This success is thanks to the work of many generations of trans* and non-binary people, inter* people, allies, volunteers and staff. We would like to celebrate this day as a historic milestone in the fight for trans* rights, human rights and self-determination and at the same time point out where restrictions on gender self-determination continue to exist.
